Houston and Winehouse for Brits tributes

A Whitney Houston tribute is being added to the 2012 Brit Awards, alongside a planned remembrance for Amy Winehouse.

Organisers are working around the clock to finalise segments paying homage to the singing icons, who both passed away in the last year.

A source told the Metro: "Whitney and Amy are two of the biggest female stars in the history of music. Both have made their mark on stage at the Brits in the past.

"Something would feel missing if both their legacies weren't remembered at the show."

Houston rocked the Brit Awards in 1999 when she performed her hit It's Not Right but It's Okay, while Winehouse sang Valerie at the event back in 2007.

Host James Corden is confident Tuesday's ceremony, to be held at the O2 Arena, will be a success.

He tells Xfm, "The show is going to be incredible. Coldplay are opening, which will be huge. They have spent a fortune on pyrotechnics to make it something really special.

"Blur will perform for 11 minutes at the end of the show - more than anyone has been given before for the Outstanding Contribution To Music Award. Add Adele, Ed Sheeran and Noel Gallagher and you've got an incredible line-up."

The Brit Awards will be broadcast live from 8pm on ITV1.
