TALENT
The all-female rowing team that crossed the Atlantic Ocean in record time recently did it most of the time in the buff, according to CNN.
The five women on the “Row for Freedom” team rowed naked much of the time during their 45-day trip, skipper Debbie Beadle told CNN:
We spent a lot of time rowing naked because when the sea water gets inside your clothes it increases friction against your skin which can cause sores…If you row naked it means you don’t rub as much and you also get dry much quicker instead of constantly having wet clothes.
Beadle, Julia Immonen, Katie Pattison-Hart, Kate Richardson and Helen Leigh became the first all female boat to complete the old 2,600 mile slave crossing route between the Canary Islands and Barbados. They also set the record for fastest-crossing for a boat of five rowers.
Their trip raised money for two United Kingdom-based anti-human trafficking charities: the A21 Campaign and ECPAT UK. The five women are already planning their next adventure. But Beadle says they’ll do it fully clothed this time.
